Sweet, sure - but a bit much, compared to the 100 videos the company had last year.Įven off Spotify, Wrapped is inescapable. (Remember the Little Miss meme? From what feels like five years ago?) As if that’s all not enough for you, here’s one more big number: Spotify got 40,000 artists to record video messages for this year’s Wrapped to thank fans. And Spotify’s data-driven identity quantification comes as the platform has only gotten more self-aware since last year - just look at this “Little Miss can’t stop posting her Wrapped results …” graphic provided to press: But you’ll notice later into Wrapped that Spotify redid the Myers-Briggs test to be about your listening habits like the test, the results are little more than alphabet soup. Yes, the time-based listening characteristics were pretty run-of-the-mill, even if you’re left wondering what the hell “Cottagecore Pumpkin Spice Bittersweet” means. Spotify updated listeners after rumors about when tracking would end even PopCrave tweeted about Spotify “teasing” the campaign in mid-October and asked followers for their “predictions.” But things really got out of hand when Spotify dropped Wrapped today. It all started even before Wrapped’s release, with anticipation rivaling a top-tier album drop. From Spotify’s own overwrought rollout to competitors’ attempts to replicate Wrapped’s success, the whole thing has gotten unnecessarily bloated, with no signs of stopping. Least surprising of all, though? There’s just too damn much of it. Bad Bunny is the most-listened-to artist for a third year in a row, along with having the most-streamed album “As It Was” by Harry Styles is the top song the aesthetic theme is ~kaleidoscope~. This year’s annual mass PR campaign cutesy data dump doesn’t have many surprises up top. We’re talking, of course, about Spotify Wrapped, which debuted for 2022 today - if you couldn’t tell by those colorful cards all over your social media. Cyrus matches Idol sneer-for-sneer on "Night Crawling," which marries the simmering vibes of Cyrus' "See You Again" to the seething menace of Idol's "White Wedding." However, if you are looking to create a physical copy, use a photocopier. Thus, if you want to just create a digital copy, use a scanner. Photocopiers are equipped with their own ink system, output trays, and printing capabilities to create copies of a document. Photocopiers don’t just create digital copies but also printouts of the document. Scanners lack output trays, ink systems, and printing capabilities they only create digital copies. Scanners are tools for businesses, schools, entrepreneurs, or company owners who wish to become “paperless.”Īfter creating a digital copy, it sends documents to a computer (through email or network) for storage or saves them on a USB or memory card. Scanning creates a digital copy to be stored somewhere while photocopying doesn’t just create a digital copy but also prints it out. The significant differences are shared below by category. People often use photocopy and scan interchangeably without really knowing the differences.Īlthough it has been pointed out that the first step is similar, other stages of the procedure, on the other hand, are entirely different. You can also put it in the document feeder, which allows multiple papers to be copied or scanned at once.Īlso Read: Learn How to Photocopy on a Printer in MinutesĪfter this first step, the next stages are what separates photocopying from scanning. This is putting a document on the platen, which is a flat glass surface on the device’s top. The first stages of photocopying and scanning are the same which is to create a digital copy of a document. The main similarity between a photocopy and a scan is that they both make digital copies of a document. It’s a great way to create copies of a document for distribution. Instead of creating a digital copy of a document, photocopying creates a paper copy or hardcopy. It’s a great way to reduce the physical storage of paper especially if you want to go paperless. The digital copy can then be stored and sent digitally as well. Scanning creates a digital copy of a document. Photocopiers vs Scanners: How Do They Work?ĭocument scanning or document imaging is the process of turning a paper document into a digital picture (or microfilm).Similarities Between Photocopy and Scan. "They would work with the entire patient. Most of the homes in the areas of Sunset Hills were 2-story white frame structures. "Ancient people saw pain more accurately - pain not only as a physical condition but as an emotional and a spiritual condition," she said. The next frontier for pain relief, then, may lie in the past. The suffering and the emotional context - that defines what the patient is actually experiencing." "Now we're very rigid and almost literal," she said. "People now like to think of science and pain treatment as being very objective," said Cope. In spite of a dazzling array of modern treatments for pain, some experts wonder if ancient and primitive cultures still have much to teach us about pain and human health. "Queen Victoria was really the first one to have anesthesia for childbirth - she had chloroform," said Warfield. It took a British royal to popularize the concept of relieving the pain of childbirth, previously thought to be an unavoidable or necessary part of motherhood. "In those days, the best surgeons were the fastest surgeons." "They would also choke people with carotid compression until they passed out," said Warfield. "They used to hold kids over a gas stove so would breathe gas until they lost consciousness," Warfield said. Prior to that, doctors and dentists used some bizarre techniques before operating.Īn old Italian technique involved putting a wooden bowl over a patient's head, then hammering on the bowl until the patient passed out, according to Warfield. "The first new significant treatment for pain occurred in 1846 with the use of anesthesia for surgery," said Meldrum. "There are scientific reasons we know about now that has shown why they worked," said Warfield. The heat from the mustard plaster worked on the principle of "counterstimulation," the idea that one kind of pain or sensation could cancel out another, more severe pain. The plaster was applied directly to the skin, or on a cloth that was then laid on the skin. Remember, stuff wasn't regulated in those days."Īnother popular approach to pain relief called for the preparation of a wet plaster made from hot mustard. "Coca-Cola was originally sold as a cure for everything," said Warfield. Other commercial remedies contained varying quantities of opiates, alcohol or cocaine - which probably made them effective at relieving pain temporarily, said Meldrum. In addition to belts and trusses containing magnets, a range of balms and liniments said to contain magnetic properties were available to gullible sufferers. "Both electricity and magnetism have been used for as long as people have been able to produce them," said Meldrum. In the 1800s and early 1900s, as magnets and electricity became widely available, medical quacks were quick to exploit these exciting and mysterious forces for their purported healing properties. The quilts were then used by those suffering from pain or other ailments. Quilts from Appalachia incorporated images of medicinal plants in "medicine squares," said Cope. The American contribution to the history of pain relief is as colorful as a patchwork quilt. Amerindian healers sucked on pain pipes held against a person's skin to "pull" out pain or illness. In some cultures, rattles, gongs and other devices were believed to frighten painful devils out of a person's body. "Primitive man understood pain when it was visible, like a cut or scrape, but didn't understand it as well when it was internal," she said. Cope, director of the Pain Medicine Division at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "Magic and ritual were very common in ancient cultures," said Dr. They tried to appease angry gods with rituals like votive offerings and scapegoats, sacrificial animals that carried the sins of people out into the wilderness. Many ancient cultures believed pain and disease were punishment for human folly. Poine also gave us our word "pain," a fact not lost on people who suffer from bodily torment so brutal it feels like divine vengeance. — - The Greek goddess of revenge, Poine, was sent to punish the mortal fools who had angered the gods. After this he finally decides to concentrate on himself instead, settling down in the new city known as Edge with Tifa and Barret. And guess what? He wasn't an emo yet.Īfter the world is saved, Cloud first pays his respects to the past, by informing Aeris's mother about her daughter's death, after which he moves on to the ruins of Midgar with Tifa and Barret, where they help out people who are putting their lives together. They're all very interesting reads, but for me personally, On The Way To A Smile matters the most because that story deals with Cloud's life after the Meteor. On The Way To Smile consists of two stories, Case Of Tifa and Case Of Denzel, and both stories as well as a third story dealing with Aeris after her death can be read here. Two years pass between Final Fantasy VII and Advent Children, and what happens during this time is inspected more closely in On The Way To A Smile. The world moves on, which means that Cloud is finally able to move on as well, which is something he's happy to do. Although the world was saved in the end, that didn't mean that the humans would survive, too, and the fact that no human characters were seen in the final scene of the game lead many to believe humans didn't survive the Meteor, but now that idea has been obviously proved false. But fortunately enough, in the middle of all that pretty, Advent Children also managed to tell quite a good story.įinal Fantasy VII's ending was largely ambiguous. I have to admit that I was one of those people who didn't expect too much from the movie: Lots of eye candy, great battle scenes, plot that doesn't give you too many headaches. Final Fantasy VII as a game was finished, but the story it told wasn't. But although that was the end of that manifesto, that wasn't the end of Cloud. The rest was just about settling the score with his past. The game itself, after all, was barely halfway, but as far as Cloud himself is considered, his characterization climaxed with the unveiling of his true self. Those who read my first manifesto for Cloud may have noticed that I finished it a little abruptly, right after the Lifestream-sequence on the second disc. Spoilers: Advent Children, On The Way To A Smile Fandom: Final Fantasy VII/Advent Children “The best sunscreen is the one that you are actually putting on your skin,” he says. The word “chemical” may sound scary and you could assume that zinc oxide sunscreen is better, but that’s not necessarily the case, says dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, M.D., Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research, Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai in New York City. For the record, whether these chemical sunscreens are harmful to our bodies is still being investigated (though we do know some of them are harmful to coral reefs and marine life). Chemical sunscreens use chemicals that sink into your skin to absorb and disperse harmful UV rays, while mineral sunscreens use ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to physically reflect rays away from your skin. You may have noticed that there’s a lot of conversation about chemical versus mineral sunscreens right now. So before you head outside for your first shirtless run of the season, make sure your back is (literally) covered. Men of all ages, and young men in particular, are at a high risk of both contracting and dying from skin cancer, and according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), sunscreen is the best tool we have in the fight against it. Not only does it prevent you from getting a sunburn, but sunscreen can also hold off premature aging caused by UV rays and, most importantly, prevent skin cancer. “No matter what sunscreen you are using, I still recommend reapplying immediately after heavy sweating or swimming.I’m sure I don’t have to tell you at this point that you need to wear sunscreen when you're outside. “A sunscreen will be labeled with either water resistance up to 40 or 80 minutes,” says Dr. Water-resistant sunscreens will ensure that you’re protected against the sun even when you’re swimming or sweating. Rodney also advises looking for other beneficial ingredients like antioxidants or anti-inflammatory agents. “For those with dry or sensitive skin, it can also be important to look for a sunscreen containing hydrating or moisturizing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or niacinamide, to soothe the skin,” Dr. ✔️ Look for hydrating and nourishing ingredients. To ensure protection against the sun, the AAD advises always looking for sunscreens that offer an SPF level of 30 or higher. “This will provide adequate protection against the sun’s harmful rays,” she says. Rodney recommends looking for ones that contain at least 10% zinc oxide. Garshick says it’s generally best to use ones that have at least 9-11%. When it comes to the concentration of zinc oxide in the formula, Dr. ✔️ Look for a 9-11% concentration of zinc oxide. UVA rays prematurely age your skin, while UVB rays cause sunburn, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). This means that they will shield your skin from both UVA and UVB rays, ensuring maximum protection against the sun. For any sunscreen you use, it’s always important to look for ones that provide broad-spectrum protection, says Dr. Garshick, M.D., F.A.A.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New York Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Meet the Experts: Ife Rodney, M.D., F.A.A.D., board-certified dermatologist and founding director of Eternal Dermatology in Fulton, MD Marisa K. That’s why we’ve rounded up all the top-rated picks approved by dermatologists right here, from the best body and face sunscreens to tinted sunscreens, sunscreen sticks, and more. When it comes to choosing the best sunscreen with zinc oxide, it can be challenging to find the right one for your skin type, budget, and specific concerns. “Zinc oxide can help soothe skin irritation and inflammation, making it a good option for people with rosacea, acne, or other skin conditions,” adds Dr. Garshick, M.D., F.A.A.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New York. Zinc oxide sunscreens are an especially great option for those with sensitive skin, says Marisa K. “Sunscreens that contain zinc oxide are considered physical (or mineral) sunscreens, as opposed to chemical sunscreens which absorb UV rays before they penetrate the skin.” Currently, zinc oxide, along with titanium dioxide, are the only two sunscreen actives that are approved by the FDA. “Zinc oxide is a mineral that sits on top of the skin and reflects UV rays,” explains Ife Rodney, M.D., F.A.A.D., board-certified dermatologist and founding director of Eternal Dermatology in Fulton, MD. Looking for the best sunscreen for your skin? You might consider buying zinc oxide sunscreens-but what exactly is zinc oxide, anyway, and what makes it different from other types of sunscreens? |
